“Precisely the same claim was made by the Spiritualist mediums of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who said they needed a group of sitters in order to generate the necessary psychic force or ectoplasm”

Findlay in his book on the edge of the etheric certainty agrees with this statement. He even claimed his stenographer had some pretty good mediumship abilities that helped his medium Sloan bring through some pretty amazing information from spirits from a different plane of existence.

One of my favorite statements in his book is on page 122: “only the ignorant affirm that just what we sense is real, that beyond this range of sense nothing exists.”

I have never been a big fan of Geller but then I have done very little research on him.

The entire book is available for free at Geller's site:

http://www.uri-geller.com/books/magician-or-mystic/index.htm> Uri Geller: Magician or Mystic?

I've recently listened to an interview with Geller. It was clear he learned early on that there is no such thing as bad publicity-- he has used his controversies to his advantage, he practically embraces them openly.

Is he genuine though? Tough to say.

"After listening to Vinod in such trances for a month, Puharich and a group of helpers were satisfied that they were being spoken to through Dr. Vinod by an extraterrestrial intelligence, which Puharich named the Nine, supreme alien beings,"

Are these the same beings (Council of Nine)behind the Scole phenomena? or simply Cosmic Jokers.

"It is often hypothesized that psi talents function more effectively when the psychic believes them to originate outside himself. Perhaps this is because such powers really do originate from outside," - Michael Prescott

In a holographic universe there is no "outside or inside". Time and space do not exist. Everything is infinitely connected to everything else. Our separation is an illusion.

I find it somehow miraculous that humans have had the atomic bomb for over 60 years and we've somehow managed to keep from annihilating ourselves. In the past whenever humans developed a new weapon we have always quickly put it to use killing our neighbors. I wonder if it is divine intervention?

I found this NDE interesting, it speaks to that.

He learned a tremendous amount of information including how the atomic bomb mushroom cloud is the holiest mandala humanity has manifested to date, as an archetype. It, more than any religion or philosophy on earth, brought humanity together all of a sudden, to a new level of consciousness. Knowing we can blow up the planet hundreds of times over, finally made us realize that maybe we are all in this together.

"Knowing we can blow up the planet hundreds of times over, finally made us realize that maybe we are all in this together."

It does seem odd that we humans have not figured out we share the same planet and cooperation might be more beneficial than competition.

I would not be too quick to conclude that because we have had the Bomb for 60 years and haven't annihilated ourselves we have done quite well. I don't think the inhabitants of Nagasaki and Hiroshima would see it the same way. In the scheme of things 60 years isn't very long at all really. Personally I think we are more at risk of being subject to nuclear terrorism now than at any time in the past.

The autobiography Puharich wrote about Uri also talks about UFO sightings Uri had when he was little, UFO contact he had when Uri was a very young boy. So this shows that it already happened before he was influenced by Puharich. The biography Puharich wrote is pretty crazy to read but then again I think Uri is a pretty crazy person who has some genuine abilities. The UFO story is way way way to much for skeptics, they have a hard time enough with stuff like telepathy and telekinetic abilities without things like Et's. Ah well it doesn't really matter. I think the puthoff, targ experiments showed enough concerning Uri his abilities wether or not he believes in aliens etc but he will remain controversial for the rest of his life.

One thing that is certain is that these additional elements are not helpful to Geller’s credulity quotient when the sentinels of objectivity consider his claims. He's raw meat for the ravenous wolves of skepticism.

His comment regarding his abilities originating outside of himself is interesting. I think anyone who has experienced the intuitive side of their own nature is familiar with the feeling that the thought or idea came from somewhere beyond themselves. Whether it’s a moment of precognition, or a fresh insight into something they’ve been working on, or just suddenly remembering where they’ve misplaced their keys; the feeling that the individual experiences is often expressed as, “it just came to mind”. From where?

Does intuitive experience, in all of its forms, truly originate from ‘outside’, or does it originate from a deeper level ‘inside’ that feels like ‘outside’?

The autobiography Puharich wrote about Uri also talks about UFO sightings Uri had when he was little, UFO contact he had when Uri was a very young boy.

True, but the UFO interpretation seems to have been imposed by Puharich on some very ambiguous experiences that Uri barely remembers. See Margolis' book for details. Uri himself says that he doesn't know what to make of those early experiences, and even seems willing to consider the possibility that they never really happened.

Glad you read Margolsis's book - i have recommended it frequently. (I believe on your blog as well.) The research into Geller's childhood makes it pretty clear that something unusual was going on very early. It doesn't mean that Geller isn't part charlatan, but it does answer a number of debunking claims.

It's an important book, not only about Geller, but about how the debunkers on slaught basically shouted people in to submission without actually producing any evidence.

I believe that's how I heard of it, so ... thanks!

I'm in the middle of the book - haven't read the whole thing yet - but I'm finding it very interesting, especially in the author's treatment of debunkers.

Thanks for your interest in me.My new web site will be launched next week have a look at it. I wish you all Health, Happiness and Peace of Mind. I send you tons of positive Energy! Uri Geller www.urigeller.com

“but about how the debunkers on slaught basically shouted people into submission without actually producing any evidence.”

Here is an interesting quote from the Findlay’s book.

“Nothing can destroy the evidence of testimony in any case but a proof or probability that persons are not competent judges of the facts to which they give testimony or that they are actually under some indirect influence in giving it in such particular case. Till this is made out the testimony must be admitted” Butler.

It appears that Butler would suggest that the testimony given by Findlay would stand up in both a civil and criminal court of law. I think the greatest gift the ultra skeptics can give us is to look deeply into our own beliefs and to suspect that we are also biased by our own personal beliefs that we have accepted due to a variety of reasons.

I was a little skeptical that this message really was sent by Uri Geller, but a trace of the IP address pinpointed the right geographical location, and the Web site checks out, so ...

Thanks, Uri! :)
