Looking over a previous comments thread, I noticed a brief exchange I had with a commenter named Rho. Rho feels that the New Testament is "a shambles" and quotes a Web article called "The Forged Origins of the New Testament."
I must have been in a bad mood that day, because I responded much too harshly. I wrote,
I'm sorry, but there's not a serious New Testament scholar anywhere in the world who would endorse this nonsense.
Which was impolite and uncalled for.
I stand by the substance of my reply, but I apologize for the tone. There was no need to try to shoot down Rho's comment in such a belligerent way.
I guess this is one of the dangers of blogging - and commenting. It is too easy to shoot from the hip.
Anyway, Rho, if you're still reading, apologies for my bad behavior.
I've cultivated the habit of reading what I've typed two or three times before emailing/posting/etc., making certain I'm conveying my thoughts as I intend. It's a habit born of one too many hurtful misunderstandings.
Writing's never been my strong suit anyway. Maybe that's another reason I'm more guarded about it.

Michael -- thanks for mentioning the reference. I found it a well-researched article, controversial, but more accurate than the "mainstream" or "serious" views.
