Mind you, if it's true about the test being done in darkness and surrounded by Yellow Bamboo members, it does seem a bit suspicious, doesn't it? Not to mention the poorly-captured film.

But either way, I'm surprised that James Randi didn't demand the experiment to be carried out in more reasonable conditions right at the start, like in daylight with no onlookers. It's strange, isn't it?

Yes, absolutely. That's why I doubt that Yellow Bamboo can really prove their case. But it was the responsibility of Randi's representative to see that the proper conditions were met in making the test. After the fact, Randi said his rep didn't really understand the protocols. That's not good enough; when a million bucks is on the line, your official representative had better understand the rules.

The burden of proof should fall on the one claiming experience, which is why some say it is impossible to disprove anything.

That's why the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is so damn brilliant...

>The burden of proof should fall on the one claiming experience,

Yes, initially. But if Randi sets up conditions for testing a claim, and the claimant appears to pass the test, then the burden of proof switches to Randi. In this case, Randi should have invited Yellow Bamboo to Florida for a more stringent test, rather than simply brushing aside the prelimary test results with an ad hoc explanation.

you are missing the point- joko was late that is why it was getting dark. Randis guy made them late.
Previously Randi had agreed to come to Bali but he also backed out of that too.

I was under the impression that it was the journalist who was late, not Joko. I could be wrong, though.

now that you mention it you may be right- point is that randi people were the ones who made it go late.

Basically Randi uses the million dollar challenge as a publicity ploy and never has any intention of paying it.

YB followed exactly the agreement, then when randi did not like the results he GUESSES that a stun gun or taser was used.

Interestingly enough, none of his flock pointed out the lack of logic in this and accepted his explanation at face value.

Randi then agred to go to Bali to do the test personally then backed out.

Maybe you want to go to bali and see for yourself?

I don't think I'll go to Bali, but I agree that Randi has no intention of paying the money. He is the final arbiter, and he can always say that the claimant has failed. The claimant has no way to appeal this verdict, so there is no chance that Randi will pay.

Hi there,
Great discussion here.
I've read numerous people their comments on-line on this Yellow Bamboo and the only thing you get is people giving their opinions based on their current view of reality. We all know that your view of reality is formed by your experienes and thus might change any moment. Now
I actually did GO TO BALI. I wanted first hand experience and I got it.
I saw way more than the knock-outs. Compared with some of the other stuff they are doing there the knock-outs are just playing.

Actually when you visit Bali you see that it is still a rather poor country and the conditions people are living in are like the things you see in development countries. They could have used the million overthere.

The "flock" actually did defend their case and pointed out the lack of logic in Randi his statements. You can read some of it on my website ( http://www.zensation.info ), as well as on some other places on the web.
I think it is funny to see how a guy who paints himself as the defender of logic, fails to apply it to his own reasoning.

Now there are a couple of people in the West who are allowed to teach this to Western students and part of their income is donated to some good causes set up by the Yellow Bamboo people.

Your reality and sense of possibility is controled directly by the experiences you have and you are in control of the experiences to which you expose yourself.

Oh by the way we are organising a 10 day course which is open to everyone, in Bali 16-26th of May 2006. There will be plenty of knock-outs there, even done by Westerners. If that would interest you, just have a look at my website (www.zensation.info) where you can read the whole program.

Have fun,
Ku'un

Just a sec. Ku'un...just because you went there and saw other stuff doesnt mean that they could not have fooled you with other stuff.

Now back to Randi, please read his webpage for more information about yellow bamboo. I understand that you are saying that Joko was a Randi representative and that he should be responsible for ensuring that all the conditions are met.

I differ in opinion. If this truly was an agreement between the Randi foundation and Yellow Bamboo, then both are responsible to make sure that the conditions are met. The fact that the conditions are not met, means that any results are suspect.

The conditions of the test were not that stringent. It was supposed to be during the day, video taped with a quality camera and Joko was supposed to walk up and tap the guy.

Firstly, it was not held during the day but at night. The reason it started late was because "the reporter" was late. I have tried unsuccesfully to contact the reporter. Why was he late? Who chose him? Would it have been possible for Yellow Bamboo to have caused his delay?

Why was it not taped on a video camera? This meant that the quality was quite poor.

Joko, ran when he attacked the yb guy. This should have never happened.

Another question I have is why was there other people running at the same time? Should it not have just been Joko and the YB practioner?

Anyhow, my point is that if YB and Randi had agreed upon the protocol then any changes at all (whether it be from Randi's rep or YB) makes it invalid.

As for Randi not showing up for a second test, I am not aware of this. Randi never said that he would go to Bali for a test. If YB is so sure that they will succeed, should they not go to him. It means 1 million dollars.

Oh by the way, YB was supposed to show up to Randi to be tested and guess what....they never showed.

I just came back from Bali where I actually met and talked with Joko and also separately the YB people at the test.

1. It was never part of the written agreement between Randi and YB that the test would be videotaped and during the day.

Joko said Randi told him to have it video or picture taken *if possible*.

2. Randi has never formally invited YB to come to do another test as Randi claimed the first test was a YB failure.
