Free advice
Here's a great blog post by my fellow author J. Carson Black about the despicable Michael Vick.
Anyone want to lay odds on Vick actually taking this advice? (I'm guessing the chances are somewhere between Ron Paul becoming president and David Thompson shattering the world.)
I like this comment by Jeff Mariotte in the comments thread:
Now that he’s found Jesus, though, I have a feeling his next step will be to “write” a book about his travails. Maybe “If I Dog-fought.” Then he can go on a long search for the real dog-fighters.
It's funny 'cause it's true!
A good posting by your friend. Michael Vick would do well to read it (assuming he's able) and take the advice, but we all know he won't go to the extreme suggested. I can envision him making a donation of some token amount to an animal welfare organization, but he's clearly so attached to his wealth and material possessions that the prospect of total divestiture (something Jesus is said to have preached) would never occur in that twisted root of ganglia Vick uses for a brain. I have some hope that the details of Vick's dog fighting practices will energize law enforcement into greater effort to investigate, arrest and prosecute the purveyors of dog fighting. When I consider humans and their habits and practices as a whole, I get very discouraged. It's depressing to see how far we HAVEN'T come.

Despicable: there is a lot of despicable to go around when we look at one area that is despicable in America and that is the institution of factory farming to maximize profits and provide cheap meat and eggs.
As far as turning to Jesus only time well tell if Vick can fully understand, appreciate, and demonstrate what that really means to turn to Jesus. It appears to me that Christianity may have died on the cross or shortly thereafter.
But then Jesus was a capitalist and taught that materialism and sports was the ideal goal in life and this is why I suspect that America the most industrialized Christian nation on earth worships at the altar of capitalism. Christian’s certainty have appeared to have captured Jesus’ teachings. Whoops sarcasm here.
We certainty love our pets but appear to have such callous concern for other animals.
Here is a quote from the factory farming website. They state it better than I can.
“Factory farming is an attitude that regards animals and the natural world merely as commodities to be exploited for profit.
In animal agriculture, this attitude has led to institutionalized animal cruelty, massive environmental destruction and resource depletion, and animal and human health risks.”

Please note the words “human health risks”. What amazes me about the universe is that human greed (ignorance) has what Ron Paul would call blowback and I suspect this “blowback” could be called karma. Karma appears to be more than due to chance but a universal law that turns the earth experience into a schoolhouse. As Emmanuel noted “where would you go to school if the earth were perfect?”
